Motivation is less important than FOCUS

How important is motivation while building a business?  I say it is HUGE but it is not the most important determining factor to your success.

Many business personalities and so called “gurus” online constantly post memes and pictures about “hustle” and getting your “grind” on.  I’m not trying to be a hater on those guys (well, maybe a little) but my point is simple.

Motivation without execution is dead.  It’s lifeless.  It’s useless.

In addition to that, guess what you need to 100% absolutely have in place to properly execute?  F.O.C.U.S.

Velcro’s Watches?

I remember when I was young reading the book “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki and being really intrigued by something he said.  He spoke of a company he owned that produced “Velcro’s Watches” and explained how he had absolutely zero passion for watches even though he built a multi million dollar business selling them.

It was weird for me to hear that because up until that time I always thought my job was to “chase my passion”.   You know what they say, “Find something you love and then figure out how to make money doing that”

While, I agree that having a career doing what your passionate about would make for a nice happy life, typically with small business owners this is not the case.  I think we all need to remember that our business is what we do and not who we are.  Your business is supposed to be a simple vehicle designed to deliver a particular result to you at the end of the day.

When you are building your company it is a great gift when you feel passion and motivation.  We achieve huge amounts of progress while feeling motivated and in a way it is kind of like steroids.

However, at the end of the day with all emotion aside, I am of the belief that having a worthy goal and staying 100% focused on that goal (even when you feel no motivation) is the real secret sauce.
