Must Listen – Lessons Learned Over 27 Years From A Small Business Veteran

Today I had the honor of connecting with and chatting to Brian Hegarty from New Jersey.

Business is easy right?  HA!

Many things in life are easy but running a small business is not one of them.  Today I had the honor of connecting with and chatting to Brian Hegarty from New Jersey.  Brian is a no nonsense straight shooter with a TON of life and business experience.  He started out as an entrepreneur owning several gas stations and then moved over to pressure cleaning back in 1990.

He takes most of the winter off to deep sea fish in Florida and escape the wintery Northeast.

A lot has changed for Brian over the years including his mindset involving his business.  Brian is a self proclaimed “technician” and struggles at times with leading his young millennial aged employees.  Over the last season his business has exploded and they are creeping up to the elusive 7 figure mark.

Brian is big on learning from his own mistakes and also learning from other business leaders like Howard Partridge to gain an edge.  It is starting to pay off big time.  Today we talk about employee issues, life lessons and many other memories Brian has had along his journey.

We share stories

Some of the stories are funny and others more painful.

Brian views his small business as a football team and says his goal is not to be the “Quarterback” or even the “Coach” of that team, rather, he is aiming to be the “owner” of the team sitting up in the glass press-box looking down.

He is close to reaching his goal and has a lot of great wisdom to share with all of us today including me.

Once again you have delivered an inspirational podcast.
My goal is also to be the owner in the glass box and looking out over the team.
In 5 years Iv taken our business from $99,000. To $325,000 this year. I’m pleased with that growth, but I know I need to have more documented systems in place, as well as a system to pick and hire the right people to be on our team.
If it can help me get systems in place, to enable explosive growth I am interested in learning about your boot camp.

      Hi Lynne,

Thats is amazing growth over the last 5 years! Good job 🙂 Now the trick is getting through the “middle” (250K-500K) so you can assemble a full team with middle level leadership… I hope I can help in some way in that journey. Happy New Year!

    Great job!
Brian is heading to be the “man in the glass box.”
He’s like the Gary Vaynerchuk of power washing!

Haha!!! Heck yes he is. He is a very sharp and one of the most focus/motivated people I have been working with lately.
